Taking place in rural Georgia, Charlie Baker finds himself trapped at a resort lodge in the middle of the thunderstorm when he is dropped off by his friend Froggy. To avoid interacting with the other guest at the lodge, Charlie pretends to not speak english which works out for him until he accidently overhears something he shouldn't. Thus, mayhem and insanity insue in this classic Larry Shue comedy. My design concept was to transport our audience to this rural part of the world by building different soundscapes for each scene of the play. Since most of the play takes place inside I set up location speakers in and around the set to simulate specific sounds heard inside and outside the cabin. Using this method allowed for the actors and audience to feel more realistic and natural experience of the space. I feel doing this created the atmosphere the play needed to be to enhance the feeling and comedy of such a classic play.
